Artemis is proud to work with Jayne Douglas of Cardinal Coaching and Consulting to bring the world of Entrepreneurship closer to students. On May 15, Jayne and Jean will lead a fun learning experience for students where they will have the opportunity to invent their own new product, learn about great entrepreneurs, and Google Earth.

In the spring of 1998, a group of teachers, parents, students, administrators and businessmen created the Connecticut Association for Mathematically Precocious Youth (CAMPY).

The CAMPY Website, an outgrowth of the meeting, was developed to help meet the needs of mathematically precocious students. The CAMPY Website will link students with information about math enrichment programs and opportunities. Parents, teachers and students will be invited to use the messages boards to establish dialogues for exchanging information and resources. Teachers will be able to use the site challenge questions for enriching students or to dialogue with other districts about program modifications for gifted students. Visit www.campy.org to learn more.

The SECT Entrepreneur Network has hosted a series of events over the last few months. On August 15, Diana Galer gave an excellent seminar about Career Change Considerations for Entrepreneurs. The next event will be Getting Started with Frank Marco. Getting Started will cover topics from creating an entity to obtaining funding and will be held on September 18 at UCONN Avery Point in Groton (time and room TBD).

What has to take place between A) deciding to become an entrepreneur and B) getting started in your new business? An entrepreneur needs to determine What-Why-How-Who, the 4 essential pillars for your new business.

1) What? What is your magic sauce? What great thing does your company do?

2) Why? Why is your product important? What problem do you solve? For who?

3) How? What is your business model? How are you going to bring your product to market, who is your competition, when are you going to break even, and what is your financial projection for the next 5 years?

4) Who? Who is on your team? Why are they the best people to make your business a success?

These are the pillars for your new business. To learn more from a successful entrepreneur, go check out Guy Kawasaki’s blog series about what entrepreneurs need to do to get from idea to cohesive business pitch. His series can be found here: guyk_pitch. While Guy is walking you through a pitch deck preparation, he gives a comprehensive outline of how to define what, why, how, and who. After you have your pillars in place, you are ready to get started in your new business. Come to the September 18 Seminar to hear Frank Marco speak to that topic. To receive updates and seminar invitations, please send a request to join the SE CT Entrepreneur Network by email to jean@artemis-startup.com and join our LinkedIn Group SECT Entrepreneur LinkedIn Group
